"Alleyways", registered as "Alleyways (I Remember)", is the sixth song by American alternative band The Neighbourhood from their debut studio album, I Love You. It was released on April 22nd, 2013, the same day that the album was released.

Theme Edit

This song was written by Jesse about him and his childhood friend (and current manager) and how much easier it was to be a child than it was to go into the music industry.

Critical Reception Edit

The Californian Paper has stated that the song "has more of a rap feel to it, but it keeps with the band’s alternative roots" and that it is "one of the more energetic songs on the album in that the beat incorporates elements of pop into the track."[1]

Live Performances and Music Videos Edit

This song has been performed live quite a few times, including at the Palladium.[2] A visualette for the song was released on YouTube on April 29th, 2013.[3]

Lyrics Edit

If things were different, we were young
Skinny dipping, having fun, I remember
Back in 1991, when the story first begun, I remember
(I remember)
All of these shelves, holding the things I've done
I knew myself before I knew anyone

And 'cause we all chew gum, we all have fun with water guns
La, da-da-da-da-da, da-da-dum-dum-dum
And we all grew up, shit got tough
Shit just wasn't simple enough

And whenever the sun came out, we played
(We didn't want to get older, we didn't want to get older)
We would run on the block all night and day
(We didn't want to get older)

What a mistake, saying the way I felt
I'd say my main influence is myself
And cause I started young, I learned a ton, I didn't run
La, da-da-da-da-da
I was scared as fuck and out of touch, and I was still testing my luck, oh

And whenever the sun came out, we played
(We didn't want to get older, we didn't want to get older)
We would run on the block all night and day
(We didn't want to get older, we didn't want to get older)
And whenever the sun came out, we played
(We didn't want to get older, we didn't want to get older)
I left myself in the alleyway

If things were different, we were young
Skinny dipping, having fun, I remember
(I left myself in the alleyway)
All I wanted would become everything I ever loved, I remember
(I left myself in the alleyway)
